Essential Question: How have different groups contributed to the cultural diversity of the Western Hemisphere?


Culture is the ways of living built up over time by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to another. Geographic proximity greatly affects culture. Since our three areas come from different geographic areas, the cultures have differences. But since they all come from the Western Hemisphere, there are many similarities, too.

  1. How do the cultures found in the Western Hemisphere compare with each other?
  2. How have exploration and colonization affected the cultures of the Western Hemisphere?
  3. How do the customs, beliefs, traditions, ideas and languages of the people in the Western Hemisphere benefit and challenge the nations?
  4. How has movement within and between countries affected the cultures of the Western Hemisphere?
